London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are a great inspiration for school trips. Visit our new programme of primary school curriculum linked 2012 Olympic themed educational trips on the Greenway in Stratford with the brand new visitor centre View Tube as our base and the magnificent London 2012 Olympic Park as our backdrop.
There are no more primary school classroom slots at the View Tube until autumn term 2012. There are occasional outside lessons available, including the options below. Please download the booking form and contact us for available dates.
Primary school visits are led by London Wildlife Trust Education Officers. Each visit lasts two hours and costs £160 for a class of up to thirty pupils. A school discount is available for classes in primary schools from the five London 2012 Olympic host boroughs. School trips are available on Wednesday Morning, Thursdays and Fridays until June 2012. For all the taught school visits and activities a brief overview of the London 2012 Olympic games and Olympic Park is given and applied to the lesson.
Key Stage 1 school Trips:
KS1 2012 Rocks! – Science Rocks & Soils

Students learn how soil is made, make quicksand and their own fossil impressions and put together a human skeleton like the 2012 Archeologists. They also find out how invaluable soil scientists and archeologists were on the Olympic park site.
KS1 Barnaby bear visits the Greenway

Listen to a Barnaby puppet sharing stories about the Olympic Games and the Greenway. Then prepare him for a journey and walk along the Greenway, past the Olympic park, to identify features on a map and compass points, and draw a postcard to take back to write at school.
KS1 Science Sorting materials

Students are given a brief introduction of the London 2012 Park and history of the Olympics. Pupils learn about the three Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) and their importance, how they are doing them all at the London 2012 Olympic park and the students are encouraged to describe objects by their properties through three fun activities, one outdoors. The objects are both natural and man-made, and the session is concluded with making reused wrapping paper (marbling). Please provide one-sided used A4 plain paper for reuse, one per student.
KS1 Animal Olympics – Science Variation

After an introduction to the Olympic site with the view of the Olympic park and safety features. Then linking the Olympic events with special adaptations of different animals and how animals move in relation to each other with practical Physical Education activities and a minibeast hunt with the Olympic park as a backdrop.
Wild drama! – Olympics or Habitats (£300 for 2 classes half-day)
In partnership with the Freshwater Theatre Company in Stratford.
After an introduction to the Olympic site with the view and key features of the Olympic park, two classes will be split so that each will take part in an hour drama on the above topics followed by an hour outside doing physical fun activities around the site, with the Olympic park in the background. Cost £300 per session. Please contact Freshwater Theatre for availability.

NC Sc, His, Geog improving the environment
The students walk along the Greenway observing the Olympic Park from different angles, play some games to highlight the history and the sports played at the Summer Olympics, learn what it used to look like, what it will look like, draw key features and decide what they would like it to be in the future. Emphasis can be placed on some common specific school topic. OUTDOOR ONLY
KS2 Archeology Rocks! – Science Rocks & Soils
Students learn about the archeological finds on the Olympic park identify fossils, future fossil impressions and make their own‘modern’ fossil after a pretend fossil dig. INDOOR/OUTDOOR SESSION (with below)
KS2 2012 Soil Detectives – Science Rocks & Soils

Students have to identify a mystery sample of soil from the Olympic park to the area it has been dug up from, make quicksand, their own soil and find out how invaluable soil scientists and archeologists were on the Olympic park site. INDOOR/OUTDOOR SESSION (with above)
KS2 Science of the Olympic Stadium - Science Buildings & Structures
NC Sc2 4a, 4b, 4c, 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d, 5e
After an introduction to the Stratford Olympic Park site with the view and safety features, strong shapes and forces, studying the structures visible in the Olympic park, the students have to construct a stadium out of paper straws to hold the equivalent of 80,000, the capacity of the main stadium at the London 2012 Olympic games.
KS2 Future of the Olympics - Geography Improving the Environment

The children survey the area chosen for the London 2012 Olympic park from the balcony, play some games to find out what it will look like and after listening to some local views, make their own conservation plans on what to do with the Olympic park after the London 2012 Olympic games.
KS2 Sustainability of the Olympic Park

The class is given a brief introduction of the London 2012 Park and history of the Olympics. KS2 Olympic Park history walk via the Greenway

The class is given a brief introduction of the London 2012 Park and history of the Olympics. Pupils are given a tour of the Greenway’s key features, shown outside the Abbey Mills pumping station, by a victorian maid, with some horrible history stories of the area and what was present before the Olympics and why this area was chosen to hold the London 2012 Olympic games. Please note you will be dropped off (morning sessions) or picked up (afternoon sessions) at Bromley-by-bow station unless discussed beforehand.Combine the guided walk with a self-directed visit to the Museum of London Docklands to learn more about this area in Victorian times, including the importance of the docks.To book a Museum of London Docklands visit please call the Box Office on 020 7001 9844. KS2 Planting up the Olympic Park – Science Plants

Students are given a brief introduction of the London 2012 Park and history of the Olympics. Students learn about photosynthesis through a fun game, explore how to differentiate between plants, whilst explaining the main features and sample an area in the grounds to create a tally chart of the five most common plants found. Then find out how their results affected the plans for soft landscaping of the Olympic park for the 2012 London Olympics. ONLY UNTIL MARCH 2012
KS2 Science Food chains & Habitats

Students are given a brief introduction of the London 2012 Park and history of the Olympics. Through four fun activities pupils explore life cycles of insects and plants, habitats and food chains. Pupils will also learn to identify minibeasts using a key with a minibeast hunt with views of the London 2012 Olympic site.ONLY UNTIL MARCH 2012

Olympics; Now and Then Videoconference
Summer 2012
This session is run in partnership with The Museum of London Docklands. Content will include the history of the Olympics; how technology has changed sport and sports equipment; or comparing past London Olympics and venues from the past and future. Please contact the London Wildlife Trust for an Olympic host discounted visit or trip to your school for £400 per day with one hour sessions on the above from 9am to 3.30pm including an interactive powerpoint assembly on the Olympics.
